THE BEAUTY EDIT
PIGMENTATION,
& UNEVEN SKIN TONE
Dark spots and uneven pigmentation can leave your complexion looking patchy. At The Beauty Edit, we start by understanding the type of pigmentation you’re experiencing, your skin’s history and what you’d like to achieve.
PIGMENTATION, DARK SPOTS,
SUN DAMAGE & UNEVEN SKIN TONE
Your skin gets its colour from melanin, a pigment produced by cells called melanocytes. When excess melanin is produced or distributed unevenly, areas of skin can appear darker than the surrounding complexion. This is known as hyperpigmentation and can present as freckles, sun spots, melasma, post-breakout marks or larger patches of uneven colour.
Sun exposure, hormonal changes and inflammation can all contribute. Pigmentation may develop after acne, irritation or an injury, while some forms become more noticeable with ongoing sun exposure. Different types of pigmentation can look similar, but their depth and cause influence which treatments are suitable.
At The Beauty Edit, we’re passionate about understanding your pigmentation and creating a considered plan that combines appropriate in-clinic treatments, targeted homecare and daily sun protection.

Pigmentation can appear as scattered freckles, flat brown sun spots, dark marks left after breakouts or patches of uneven colour. It can show up on all areas of the body including the face, neck, décolletage, hands and other areas exposed to the sun.
Post-inflammatory pigmentation develops where the skin has previously been inflamed or injured.
Melasma is hormonal, can be triggered by hormones, medication, heat or trauma and tends to form broader facial patches and requires its own treatment approach.
New, changing or unusual pigmented spots should be assessed by a doctor before cosmetic treatment.
-
We begin with a thorough consultation covering your medical history, sun exposure, skincare, previous treatments and when the pigmentation first appeared. We assess your skin tone and the pattern of discolouration before recommending suitable options.
Your plan may include tailored Lira Clinical homecare and daily broad-spectrum SPF, alongside selected clinic treatments. We’ll explain expected improvement, potential downtime and the risk of pigmentation becoming darker following irritation or treatment.
-
Our treatment options support different stages of your pigmentation journey, from treating to on-going management. Following a thorough consultation, we’ll recommend suitable options and explain how they fit into your personalised plan.
Your program will often begin with a recommended Lira Clinical Core Four skincare routine. Consistent homecare forms the foundation of your plan, supporting your skin between appointments and helping prepare it for more advanced corrective peels where appropriate. What you do at home plays an important role in your progress, with in-clinic treatments providing targeted support.
Depending on your skin’s needs, your plan may include a combination of Lira Clinical corrective peels, skin needling, Sylfirm X RF microneedling, LED light therapy or our Pigmentation Pico Laser Facial. We’ll select and sequence treatments according to your pigmentation, sensitivity and how your skin responds.
